We Conquered In the Sun (9/26)

I’ve been trying to write a decently coherent and all inclusive post about my summer and the start of school but I haven’t actually been able to pay attention long enough. I think I’ve figured out why, but I’ll get to that at the end. To make writing this as fast as possible, I ‘ll write out a highlight reel.

-I worked 5 weeks at the Washington Sailing Marina teaching kids to sail.

- I biked to work as often as possible, 30 miles round trip.

- I went to a family reunion in Illinois, which got moved to an indoor waterpark resort called Key Lime Cove (It was just as touristy as it sounds), and then to a Best Western in Kenosha, Wisconsin, due to power outages and tornado damage. Twas rather ridiculous.

- I did a 2 week Pre-College Program at the Corcoran College Of Art in DC for drawing and digital art. I met some really cool artists, and learned what it was like to be an art student. Oh, and photoshop, and stuff.

- I took up the ukulele. I’ve learned quite a bit, and Josh and I are practicing and setting up street performances to make a little extra on the side.

- I went to Florida for a week with my father and half-brother, and took some awesome exposures while avoiding being killed by a hurricane.

- I chilled with the techies, a lot. Particularly Liz. And we started dating about 2 months ago, which has been sooo awesome. We’re going to homecoming together, with a few of the techies. :)

- School is actually not completely soul crushing. I’m in AP Calc, Anatomy/Physiology, Double period AP Photography, Honors English, Comparative Religion, and I’m a host tutor for the Stage Design class.

- I’m the Tech Leader this year, starting out as Student Technical Director for this year’s Blast.

- I’m also some sort of hero. Something about saving the senior classes homecoming float. Or something. Basically, just consistently rockin’ techie swag.

- I bought a hammock. This isn’t necessarily as important as it is awesome. But I bought a hammock, that fits in a bag the size of a softball and has carabiners I can use to clip it to shit. And it is fantastic.

- Josh and I have decided we’re taking up freebasing and base jumping, and learning to use wingsuits. Freebasing is the process of climbing mountains without any safety equipment, then using a base jumping parachute designed for low altitude jumps to get back down. We intend to tour around for a while doing this, either on breaks during college or later.

So yeah. This is basically the past 3-4 months, shortened as best as I could. I’ve probably left out a few things. But I realized as I tried over and over again to summarize my life, everything thats happened and how I feel about it is that this blog is really just a coping mechanism. To avoid doing schoolwork, or gain some introspection about relationship issues or when I’m just not at the top of my game, writing posts gathers my thoughts and re-calibrates my thought processes. But lately, my life has been pretty sweet. I’ve got a great girlfriend, I make a difference at tech and at school, I know where I want to go and what I want to do with my life, and I’m set. And as a result, I’m probably not going to post that often. But if anyone still actually reads this, I’ll make sure to keep you guys updated every once in a while.
